Easy DIY No Sew TAMAGOTCHI Case!

Hey everyone! Today, we are going to be creating an easy, low cost, no sew Tamagotchi case!

This case can be made to fit any color Tamagotchi, and you will only need a few simple materials:

  • One piece of felt. These can be found at craft stores for as cheap as a quarter. The piece will need to be at least 12 by 9 inches, which seems to be standard in the US.
  • One 9 inch piece of quarter inch elastic.
  • A LOW TEMP hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • A hair tie or rubber band

You may also want plastic wrap to cover and protect your Tamagotchi. Honestly, if you’re careful, I think this is optional. But I’m going to say it's necessary so no one can blame me if they get glue on their Tamagotchi. If you choose to do this, make sure it is a thin layer of plastic wrap, otherwise the finished case will not fit correctly.

First, cut a 9 by 9 inch square from the felt, and set the extras a side.

Lay the felt so the corners of the square are running up and down. Set your Tamagotchi in the center, screen side up.

Put the hair tie or rubber band around your wrist. Pick up the top and bottom corners, and hold them in one hand. Use your other hand to gather the other two corners. Then, slide the hair tie off your wrist and over the Tamagotchi, so it rests on the gathered fabric.

Pull the gathered fabric aside, and make sure you like how it looks when pulled back. These little bunches and pleats will be a part of the case, so now is your chance to adjust any if needed.

Next, take your elastic and hot glue gun. A little below the top edge of the Tamagotchi, glue about an inch of the elastic to the bottom of the case. Wrap it around the Tama, so it lays flat but is not tight, and glue it in place. Trim any extra if necessary.

Now you can remove the hair tie. Trim around the gathered felt, so there is about an inch left above the elastic.

For this next step, we will be securing the felt over the elastic. The trick to working with the glue gun is to patience; if you move too quickly, you risk pulling the glue and felt fibers. Start at the top, and add a quarter inch of glue or so to the edge of the felt. Pull it over the elastic, and hold in place for until the glue is set. Then go to the bottom, and secure the fabric. I recommend alternating sides as you are securing the fabric; this will help it look more even. For example, after you glue fabric on the left side, go directly across to the right side and secure that fabric.

The main portion of the case is complete! Now for the fun part, decorating and customizing. The scrap fabric from earlier can be cut into a one inch strip, and used to cover up the glued areas. You could also use wide ribbon for this. Another idea would be to cross stitch a fun design on a piece of felt, and glue it on the back!

This DIY is really super easy, and can be a quick way to create a Tamagotchi case on a budget! If you decide to create this case, share a picture on Instagram and tag me, or comment below to tell me how it went!
